Tile Tile · Reading habits

A reading habit tracker that starts with two pages.

One book, one daily cue, one check-in. A small plan for reading more regularly without turning your book into another task list.

If you keep meaning to read but never quite start, track showing up to the book before tracking how many books you finish. Try “read two pages after lunch” for a week. Two pages is an example, not a target you have to earn your way up to.

I built Tile Tile as a private habit tracker. Here is a reading setup you can try on paper first, then keep visible on your iPhone if it fits your day.

Try the plan before installing anything

The free worksheet opens with “After lunch / Read two pages / Read one paragraph”. All seven daily results start blank. Edit the plan, then print it or save a PDF.

Make the check-in mean one thing

Decide what counts before day one. You could use two pages, five minutes, or one short poem. Choose one rule so you can tell whether you actually did it. If you want a smaller fallback for a busy day, write that down too.

For example: “After lunch, open my book and read two pages. My minimum is one paragraph.” A check-in records meeting that minimum. It does not mean you finished a chapter or read for an hour.

Set up the habit in Tile Tile

  1. Create a habit with an action as its name. “Read after lunch” is easier to recognize than a vague annual goal.
  2. Add a Home Screen widget. Keep the habit where you will see it when you pick up your phone.
  3. Read first, then check in. Record the action you did, rather than checking it off when you intend to do it.
  4. Look back at the week. Use weekly progress and the history view to notice when the routine fitted your day.

Make the book easier to reach than the scroll

Leave the book next to the place where your cue happens: beside the lunch seat, on the bedside table, or in the bag you take on the train. Open it at the bookmark before deciding whether you have time for more.

Pick a book you want to return to. If the book itself is the obstacle, changing books may be more useful than adding another reminder. You can also choose a separate listening habit for audiobooks; give it its own clear completion rule.

What to do when you miss a day

Leave the day honest. The next session does not need to repay the missed one. If lunch repeatedly gets interrupted, try a different cue for the next week. If two pages feels too much, shrink the starting action.

At the end of seven days, ask: When did I remember? What interrupted me? Do I want to keep the same plan? This is a one-week experiment, not a promise that a lasting habit forms in seven days.

Reading tracker or book log?

Use Tile Tile when the question is “Did I read today?” It is a general habit tracker, not a book catalog, page-count log or reading recommendation service. If you need a list of titles and detailed reading notes, keep those in your preferred notebook alongside the habit.

What is free, and what does Pro add?

Tile Tile is free to download and requires no account. Habit data stays on your device. Optional Pro adds unlimited habits, full history, advanced statistics and more customization. Check the in-app purchase screen for current local prices.
